Hi everyone! My name is Shawna…

I manage the community relations and outreach efforts here at Verdes. Last year, with your help Verdes donated $100,000 to amazing organizations in your community that focused on animal wellness, health, and education.

Verdes Focus for 2018

This year, I am very excited to say that we are broadening our efforts to include a focus on social justice. Issues such as civil rights, immigrant rights, and juvenile justice are a few areas where we will invest resources to impact many of the most underrepresented communities in our state.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our first contribution in the area of social justice is a donation of 10% of our Monday, January 15th sales to the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice (ACPJ). You can learn more about the ACPJ and their upcoming anti-racism workshops and legislative trainings here.

What can you do?

I know that we often see Albuquerque at the bottom of many lists, but we as a community can help change that. We are a diverse state filled with capable and talented individuals, yourself included! As Verdes continues its commitment to improving New Mexico, I ask that you do the same however you can. Depending on what you’re passionate about, consider some of these ideas:

There is an entire organization dedicated to volunteerism in Albuquerque! It’s called ABQInvolved and they are always looking for people who can spare some time to do some good.

Did you know that many non-profit organizations accept monthly automatic donations? It’s an easy way for you to give a small monthly amount and have it add up to something big by the end of the year.

Verdes recently hosted a food drive where our amazing patients donated goods for us to give to Casa Esperanza!

You can donate to a local food bank or you can host your own food drive at your job, school, or community center. These donations truly make a difference to non-profits and are always appreciated.

The City of Albuquerque just released a list of boards and committees that need volunteers. If you’ve ever considered being involved in local politics, this is a great way to get your foot in the door.

There are many organizations that are doing great work. Sharing information about these organizations to your friends and family is an important task that anyone can do.

Our Commitment

I am committed to continuing Verdes’ spirit of giving by hosting food/item drives, sharing volunteer opportunities, and investing in our state through Verdes’ Community Giving Days. If you know of volunteer opportunities, item drives, or social justice organizations that we should support, please send me an email at community@verdesfoundation.org.

I look forward to hearing from you!
