Flu season is here!
Here are a few ideas to help you stay healthy:
Nourish with seasonal foods. It is always preferred to get your nutrition through food sources, as opposed to supplements, when possible. This time of year the produce selection can be a bit sparse but the good news is the veggies we should be eating are the ones most available!
One medium orange contains 100% of your daily recommended vitamin C. Citrus fruits are also high in the flavonoid hesperidin, which helps increase HDL (good cholesterol) and lowers LDL (bad cholesterol). Potatoes can be immune boosters since they have high levels of vitamins C and B6. Squash is easy to find this time of year and can aid in your wellness by providing a very large amount of vitamin A as well as vitamins C, K, B6 and potassium.
Please remember to stay well hydrated this season! This is an effective and free way to protect yourself because water allows our immune cells to function at their optimal level.
Stay active and stay warm! It is important to remember that it’s not the “cold” that makes you sick, but the viruses and bacteria that attack us when we’re susceptible. In order to enjoy fresh air in the winter, plan your activities during the warmer times of the day. Exercise is critical when it comes to enhancing our immune system because exercise stimulates our cells to release endocannabinoids, which provide protection from pathogens.
Ease stiffness, joint pain, & swelling. For patients living with many types of arthritis, the cold weather means a flare of aches and pains. For anyone who is managing joint pain and stiffness we recommend our Verdes Salve. For best results, warm the skin prior to use.
You can also try our new soaking salts which are infused with high dose cannabis oil. The THC oil in the bath helps to ease tension without intoxication and the Epsom salt is hypertonic, which means it pulls lactic acid out of your sore muscles and joints. Use pure Epsom salt between cannabis soaks to help with cost. Epsom salt can be found at any pharmacy. Make sure to rinse off after your soak to get the salts off your skin, and try to soak up to the base of your neck when you have back or shoulder pain. If you are waking up stiff or sore, please consider adding more CBD to your nighttime and/or morning routine.
